For grandma

A personalized book for grandma, from one real day.

A book for grandma from Me the Star is about her and your kid: one real day the two of them had, written into a 32-page hardcover with your kid drawn from one photo on every page. It works the other way too. Grandma can write one for a grandson or granddaughter too, from her own story, with the parent putting it in the app.

Which way round is a personalized book for grandma?

There are two honest versions, and both start from the same fact: a Me the Star book stars your kid, drawn from one photo on every page[1]. The first is a book about your kid and grandma, from one real day they had, given to her. The second is a book for the grandkid, written from a moment grandma tells in her own words.

The first version is the gift for her birthday or for Christmas. The story is written from the moment you describe[1], so the afternoon she taught your kid to shell peas on the back step goes in as it happened, and the kid on the step has your kid's face. She is in the book because she was there. She already has the fridge of photos and the drawer of drawings. This is the one she can read to your kid, out loud, the next time they visit.

The second version is a personalized book from grandparents to a grandson or granddaughter. Grandma writes the moment in her own words. The parent, who holds the photo and the account, puts it in the app and adds her name to the dedication, and the book ships to the kid's house. Either way, nothing is printed until someone has read the whole thing aloud and decided it belongs on a shelf.

Which moments with grandma make the best story?

Write the thing that only happens at her house. "Grandma is the best" gives the writer nothing. "Grandma let Sofia stir the sauce and it went up the wall" gives it a kitchen and a picture. Two or three sentences, in your own words, with the detail that would make her laugh.

  • Her birthday: the cake your kid decorated for her, and where the frosting ended up.
  • Christmas: the cookies made at her table, and which shapes survived the oven.
  • Mother's Day: she is a mother too. The thing she does with your kid that she never did with you.
  • The visit: the week at her house in summer, and the rule about ice cream before lunch that only applies there.
  • Just because: the phone call every Sunday, and what your kid tells her that they never tell you.

From grandma's side, the same rule holds. The story is built from what happened[1], and the best material is the thing the parents were not there for. Last summer counts, written now for the age you give.

How do the three kinds of personalized book handle grandma?

Every personalized book on the market is one of three kinds. The first two put grandma in the dedication, or in some photo titles, on the page as a photograph. The third writes her into the story, because the story comes from a day she was part of.

What does it cost, and how long does it take to reach her?

Reading is free: five stories per kid, narrated, saved to your library, no credit card[1]. The hardcover is $39, or $29 as a member of any plan[1]. A grandma with three grandkids is three photos and three moments, and no charge until a book is printed.

How does grandma give one to a grandson or granddaughter?

The parent or legal guardian makes the kid's profile from one clear photo of the kid's face and the kid's age, because the photo upload is theirs to do under the terms. Grandma sends the moment and the words for the dedication, and the parent puts them in. The library, kids and books sync to any device the parent signs in on with their email[1].

  1. The photo, from the parent

One clear photo of the grandkid's face, uploaded by the parent. We build a private likeness sheet from it and reuse it on every page, so the kid at her table is the same kid in her garden[1]. The photo is never used to train AI and is auto-deleted after the last order[1].

App screen: Meet Sofia, your AI character is ready
  2. The moment, in her words

Two or three sentences about one real thing she and the kid did. The story is written from that, for the age the parent gives, and she is in it the way she describes herself.

App screen: reading a finished book aloud on a tablet
  3. Read it, then print it

The book is narrated aloud in the app. The parent rewrites any line, redraws any page, and prints only if it earns the shelf[1]. "Send as a gift" at checkout adds grandma's dedication and her name[1].

A personalized book for a granddaughter and one for a grandson are the same process twice, each from that kid's own photo and that kid's own day. Every kid gets five free stories[1], so the reading costs her nothing, and the two hardcovers are $39 each[1].

Questions families ask before giving one

Is this a book about grandma, or a book from grandma?

Either. A book about your kid and grandma, from one real day, is a gift for her. A book written from grandma's own moment is a personalized book from grandparents to the kid. Both star the kid, drawn from one photo, and both are free to read before anyone prints.

Does grandma appear in the pictures?

Grandma is in the story as you describe her; your kid is the one drawn from the photo, and kept the same on every page.

Does grandma need her own account?

No. The parent or legal guardian uploads the photo and makes the book in their own account, as the terms ask. Grandma sends the moment and signs the dedication. The library, kids and books sync to any device the parent signs in on with their email[1].

Can I make one for a granddaughter and one for a grandson?

Yes. Each kid gets five free stories, and each book is built from that kid's own photo and own moment. Hardcovers are $39 each, or $29 on any plan. The Family plan covers up to 3 kids at $34.99 a month.

How old does the grandkid need to be?

The kid profile in the app takes an age from 2 to 10, and the story is written for the age you give. A book for a grandkid under two waits until they are two; the moment can still come from the first year.

Can it ship straight to her?

Yes. Tick "Send as a gift" in the order modal and the hardcover ships to the address you enter at checkout, in 5 to 7 business days in the contiguous US. International shipping is not supported yet.

What if the print is not right?

Every printed book has a 14-day happiness guarantee: a reprint at no cost or a full refund, your choice.
